In 2014 I talked with Mackenzie Crook about his forthcoming series of DETECTORISTS. Here's a very short extract from the Searcher article.
"In an email later, Mackenzie said that it was refreshing to do an interview where he got to talk about things that really interested him, instead of the usual banal showbiz questions. Next day I received a beautiful, original and signed piece of artwork showing a dejected detectorist holding a tin can ... he looked very familiar!
That sketch has been on my lounge wall ever since then and was donated recently to the auction organised by John Brassey.
The hall in Framlington, where many of the scenes took place, has been taken down and the auction was to help the villagers build a new one.
I am pleased to report that the sketch raised the magnificent sum of £1,900 - my article can be seen in The Searcher of May 2014 - or make a simple search on my blog.
